For many people the Dutch hip hop act Dope D.O.D. was one of the highlights of last year’s Iceland Airwaves festival, but somehow I managed not to see them there… I just had to make up for that, so I made sure to catch them when they played at Luxor Live in my home town of Arnhem.

I can now fully understand why they were liked so much in Reykjavik and have since continued to amaze music fans with their dark (but always tongue in cheek) lyrics, inspired by 90′s hardcore hip hop, mixed with modern, dubstep and drum and bass inspired beats… I really enjoyed this gig!

Opening up for Dope D.O.D. was a crew from Deventer: FATA. These guys proved how strong the quality of the Dutch hip hop scene is, with their intelligent beats and rhymes. And this doesn’t just apply to their own tracks, but one of their members, Louis Bordeaux even produced one of the latest tracks from Dutch hip hop enfant terrible Fresku… Good stuff!

Two full photo galleries after the break…
Enjoy the photos!
