It felt good to be back at my local venue Luxor Live in Arnhem for a double headliner of two bands who’s acronyms were both BBR: bluesrockers Black Bottle Riot from nearby Nijmegen and Flemish psychedelic blues and rock duo Black Box Revelation.

Black Box Revelation’s Jan Paternoster (on guitar and vocals) and Dries Van Dijck (on drums) were just back from a trip to Russia, where they played in Moscow. A photo I took of them at the de-Affaire festival way back in 2008 was used on a poster to promote their Russian gig. I have to admit being pretty proud of that…

2008 was also the last time I saw them live, so I was curious to hear how their sound had evolved since, and it sure has! It’s still as energetic, raunchy and down and dirty as ever, but the diversity of their songs has become much bigger, making it even more fun to watch them perform.

I had not seen the Black Bottle Riot perform live before (shame on me, hehe) but I had already heard of their live reputation. And they sure managed to deliver on the night!

Really cool to see the energy of this band on stage and not just that, it’s also really clear that these guys are out there to enjoy themselves, despite playing some serious bluesrock. Glad that I finally made up for missing them so many times before…

Two full photo galleries after the break…
Enjoy the photos!
