When I was checking some photos from last year, I discovered that, whilst they had found their way to for instance File Under, some of them hadn’t made it to my website yet. So in order to create a clean slate again, here they come! In the post after this one I’ll show loads of photos from the Red Ribbon Rock festival, from waaaaaay back in June of last year in my home town of Arnhem. And that ties it nicely together with this post, from a gig in Arnhem too: Miriam Moczko’s ‘White Lies’ EP release party at TAPE.

TAPE is not just a really cool retro styled espresso bar with a great atmosphere, but there’s more on offer there besides great coffee and food: there’s a permanent exposition space in the basement and from time to time the bar is transformed into a concert venue. Sadly though without the appropriate lighting, as there were just two lamps with maybe 25 Watt lightbulbs in them positioned above the band, so that made getting decent shots quite a challenge.

Miriam’s performance in the packed bar left very little to be desired however, as it was great. It did have to sides to it thought, as it turned out to be both a new beginning and an end: this was her last ever performance with beatboxer Maxim Argilagos and cellist Beate Wolff, after a two year long collaboration. Maybe sad, but in the end it only made the evening at TAPE more special…

Opening act for Miriam was Peter Lada, singer/songwriter from Arnhem, with sensitive songs, remniscent of Nick Drake, to which the streetlights and the shopwindows to the back of him provided the perfect decor.
